A COMMENT - from Stephen Lowers, owner of LOWERS.com
9-11-01

On September 14th 2001, I received a copy of a very nice E-mail that closed with "But if you and I are  having a single thought of violence or hatred against anyone in the world at this moment, we are contributing to the wounding of the world."  I responded with the following with the understanding that one of America's fundamental freedoms is the right to voice ANY opinion. However, I haven't forgotten that there are thousands of marked and unmarked graves around the world, on land and at the bottom of the ocean, of Americans that fought and died to insure that we would retain that right. I also responded with at least a basic understanding of some of the conditions the marked us for attack in 1941 and 2001. One of which is that our love of peace can be misinterpreted as weakness.

World History is not a lesson that it being taught today... In our schools, around the world, and some may have just flat forgotten it.

NOW IN 2010, It is time for us to do our home work AGAIN!

The principal architect of the December 7th 1941 attack on Perl Harbor was Adm. Isoroku Yamamoto, Commander-in-Chief of the Japanese Combined Fleet. He had no wish to go to War, and as a former student here in the United States, he knew if we were attacked, what we were going to do. In an interview with Shigeharu Matsumoto, a member of the Japanese Cabinet in the 1940s, he stated:

"In the first six to twelve months of a war with the United States and Great Britain I will run wild and win victory upon victory. But then, if the war continues after that, I have no expectation of success."

It is the nature of Americans, to want peace. However, the United States was targeted in 1941 because our people stated that we did not want to get into "their" war, the war in Europe. It was the Japanese Cabinet that had the opinion that "we would not fight. That we were not strong enough." It is nature, not just human nature, for the strong to prey upon the weak, so they went on with their plan.

During the cold war, the US and Soviet Union's Atomic strength balance that kept us, and the world safe. But when we give the impression that we are weak, we are attacked. When we lost men and women to bombings of our Embassies and the Cole, we did little or nothing. Now, just as in 1941, once again it has happened, and the people that did this, expect that we will do nothing again.

The risk of attack is far from over. With the time difference from East to West, it is quite possible that the grounding of all flights stopped plans to attack other cities at the beginning of their work day. Quick action by the FAA and others may even have saved the life of someone you know. I wonder if people would be so quick to turn the other cheek if their family member was at the bottom of the WTC in so many pieces.

It is true that we will never be able to find each and every person that was responsible, or would continue these attacks. This is truly a war fought by civilians, against civilians. BUT IT IS WAR! However, our government has the responsibility to protect it's citizens REGARDLESS OF COLOR OR RELIGION. The people of the United States should focus on the problems that are to come in the days and weeks ahead and let the US Government do it's job. But if it can't or won't, it is our option to vote in a group of Americans that share our values. The leaders of the United States should never apologize. For it was the United States that has held against those  who would enslave the world. It was the United States in two World Wars that made the difference.

Attacks by any individual on any person or persons here in the United States should not be condoned or tolerated. FOCUS on being part of the solution, not add to the problem. But trust should not be blind!
Terrorism on a scale we saw on 911 is not possible without the backing or knowledge of some government. And is that government that will pay the price for allowing such things to operate within thier borders.

The action that MUST take in the near future is to make it clear to every government in the world, that we will hold them responsible for any terrorist attacks on the United States from any group sheltered within their borders. We must extract such a payment, that no government would ever consider allowing these groups to operate in their country again.

It should be clear to the world, that ALL Americans, regardless of which country they were born in, can be attacked by terrorist, but can not be terrorized. You will only piss us off!

Once again we are sending the world the same message we did in the late 1930's. December 7th and September 11 should have showed us the price we pay when we appear to be weak. These people may employ other methods in the future. Chemical, Biological and Radiological are just three that are possible.

On September 14th 2001, at 10:00 pm while driving home, I found groups of 7-10 young people with flags and USA signs on several street corners, and drivers were honking their horns. I was sure that the young would have no real interest or understanding of events. I am glad I was wrong. I didn't even see this reaction during Desert Storm against Iraq. The American people are truly United.

Remember the old line that goes something like, "those who do not remember history, are doomed to re-live it." As hard as we pray to our God (no matter what name you use) for peace, remember, there are other people in the world who are praying to their God to help them wipe us off the face of the Earth. Don't try to deal with them with our standards. By murdering over 5000 people, these people believe that it ascends them into heaven as martyrs. While we all know, they went straight to Hell!
