Q: What does the paper weight numbers mean?
A:
Papers are classified into categories, then based on
the total weight of 500 sheets of a specific size. The problem is that
the size is not the same for each category (see paper category table
below). That is why you may get the impression that 24# Text is much
lighter than 60# book. And that 60# book must be close to the same weight
as 65# Cover. You would be wrong: The following show paper weight equivalents
for just a few of the available paper weights.
