Address Change Service - An automated
process that provides change-of-address information to mailers
who maintain their mailing lists on computers. The information
is captured in the computerized forwarding system (DFS) units
and sent to mailers on tape to eliminate manual processing of
change information. |

processing facility that receives and distributes mail destined
for specific ZIP Code area under the managed mail program (MMP).
An ADC is one of the points within the national MMP distribution

Area Mail Processing Center
- A central mail processing facility that processes part of
all of both incoming and outgoing mail for a designated service
area. Usually the AMPC
is also and SCF or other large post
office, but it may be a dedicated mail processing facility without
a station, branch, or associated post office. |

Alternate Delivery Services - A
procedure that provides for accepting permit imprint mail to
ensure proper postage payment and mail preparation without verification

Accelerated Reply Mail - Origin
caller service provided at a postal facility other that the
one to which caller's mail is addressed, by which reply mail

Express Mail to the caller's address. |

Auxiliary Service Facility - A mechanized
facility, usually part of a CMF, that serves as a subordinate
processing hub for a parent bulk mail center Automation
Mailing pieces meeting the Compatible standards allowing
for address scanning and automatic sorting. |
Barcode |
A ZIP+4 barcode is made up of a single field of
52 bars. The information content of the barcode is based on
the combination of tall and short bars. When separated into
groups of five, these bars sequentially represent each of the
nine digits of the ZIP+4 code for the delivery address, plus
a tenth digit designated as the "Correction digit." |

Business Reply Mail - A domestic

Business Reply Mail Accounting
System - An automated means of processing and
rating prebarcoded BRM though BRM customer may be eligible for
a lower fee that would otherwise apply to BRM. Bulk Mail

the Address, City and State. The end result is a dated certificate

(or post office box, etc.), and a correction digit. The DPBC
allows automated Sortation of mail to the level in walk-sequence. |

Facilities [rate] - A discount/rate available to
specific types of mail that is properly prepared and entered
by the mailer at the SCF or other designated postal facility
that serves the delivery address on the mail. |
Enhanced Carrier Route |
Mailings of 200 or more addressed Standard Mail pieces
100% delivery point bar-coded (C840), and sorted and marked,
as required. All pieces must be automation-compatible (C810).
Pieces are eligible if not required to be mailed at first-class
